SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECTS

Industrial Forest Plantations Establishment and Development Project in Turkey

INDUSTRIAL WOOD AGRICULTURE IND. VE TİC. Inc.

90% of the 200 million h afforestation area in the world has been established to meet the industrial wood demand. (Kanowski, 1997).

The forest area in our country is approximately 21.7 million h (OGM, 2013).

In our country, there is an industrial afforestation area of approximately 55-60 thousand h in the width of 0.03% of the natural forest area of 21.7 million h. This is 0.3% of the total forest area.

The mentioned afforestations are generally established in degraded, swampy areas where wood production is not done, in accordance with the ecological demands of fast-growing species.

Thanks to industrial afforestation, cheaper wood raw materials are produced. This is the most important issue in increasing the export capability of wood processing industries.

For this purpose, in 2005, with 26 founding partners from various business circles, mainly from fiber chip, paper and packaging industry sectors, and with the founding membership of OYKA, in order to meet the deficit of wood raw materials, which is increasing day by day, not from our natural forests, but from industrial afforestation areas to be established for wood production. Industrial Wood Agriculture Industry and Trade Joint Stock Company (ENAT) was established.

The "Establishment and Development of Industrial Forest Plantations in Turkey" Project, supported by ENAT in order to increase the contribution of the forestry sector to the country's economy and to develop industrial afforestation investments, was initiated in cooperation with the TEMA Foundation and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The project was carried out under the coordination of Istanbul and Abant İzzet Baysal Universities Forestry Faculties and Izmit Fast Growing Forest Trees and Poplar Research Institute.

OYKA Paper Packaging contributes greatly to social responsibility projects and the country's economy through ENTA, which it initiated to reduce erosion and carbon emissions, contribute to rural development, reduce dependency on foreign markets and create new employment opportunities.

FIRST AFFORESTATIONS

Within the framework of the project, the first plantations were started in Bursa-Karacabey Kıranlar Village. As of 2012, 1,750,000 saplings were planted in a total of 1255 h of land in Karacabey's Kedikaya and Dağesemen Villages, Çanakkale-Ezine Kızılköy and Gökçeada.

CONCLUSION

Undoubtedly, the most effective solution against carbon emissions and global warming, which has become a major problem in the world, is to protect and expand the green cover. OYKA, which aims to serve the environment as well as the economy by supporting tree cultivation and mass production of wood raw materials, and is aware of being sensitive to social responsibility, has been involved in the ENAT project since its establishment.

Human Resources

OYAK Cement’s human resources management mentality consists of the adoption of approaches and applications that support strategical targets and performance, while responding to the special needs of the different industries with which it conducts its activities in an appropriate and efficient manner.
